I've been a clinical psychologist in Illinois for the past 20 years. However, I've been working in the field of mental health for almost 40 years. I received my PhD from the University of Chicago and have worked in the Chicago area for hospitals, teaching at universities, providing clinical supervision to students and in private practice. Presently, my work is half time in hospital settings as a health psychologist and the other half of my time is in private practice.
I work with children, adults and the elderly, providing psychotherapy and psychological testing and assessment. My approach to therapy is integrative. I have certification in clinical hypnosis and like to work with patients on practical strategies to improve their lives. Once particular problems are addressed, addressing life's meaning and personal potential is always important..
My academic training is in depth psychology and I find it important to work with people to understand personal history and it's repercussions on the present. My philosophy is more person centered; people must find their place in the world according to their own talents and predilections. My research informs my work and I am editor of an international journal on Traditional Healing and Critical Mental Health. You can find a link to it on my biographical page. As you can imagine, I am an advocate of self regulation, such as meditation and clinical hypnosis.
I am certified in clinical hypnosis and work with clients on self-regulation. I consult in hospitals on issues related to general health and overall well being.
